During a trip to Spain, French writer Prosper Mérimée witnesses a fascinating story. Carmen has the nature of a free and enigmatic person. Her beauty inspires his characters and passion. Sergeant Jose becomes a victim and hero of extraordinary events, and has a turbulent love affair with Carmen. With each new lover Carmen takes, Jose becomes more jealous and steps toward a life of crime. After killing the latest lover, he tries to get away and start a new life.
