Notes
Carolyn enjoyed Ghost Boy so much she picked up another title by the same author. This is about kids from diverse backgrounds learning about 9/11. Interesting to think that for our young people this is already something to learn about in a history class!

Notes
Claudia enjoyed this novel that has since been made into a film. Set at Portland Downs it has Oregon area interest as well.

Notes
Pat loved the beautiful prose and the ecological themes in this recent release.

Rad is on a Tana French kick. He is enjoying Tana French for the characters and enjoyed this one but thought it might be a little long. Kristin pointed out that the narrative structure of this one was different from the others with its lengthy flashbacks set against the backdrop of a remarkably short investigation.
Description
Notes
Kristin loved this powerful and dark debut novel about Native American's living in Oakland. Really eye-opening. Also, very well structured: interwoven narratives that come together clearly mid way through and hurtle towards a violent climax. Wowzers.

Notes
During the conversation about Ghost Boys, Kristin talked about the wave of award-winning African American titles that came out last year and mentioned this one, set in East Portland, specifically. Renee Watson's debut novel is being reissued soon and will be well worth checking out when it is released. (Kristin has an Advanced Reader's Copy and is reviewing for School Library Journal currently.)

Notes
Carolyn found this book about violence against young black boys very powerful and worthwhile. Highly recommended.

Notes
Bill actually read "It Came from Beyond Zen." This is a similar book from the same author that we do own. Lots of discussion of translation issues, but Warner's mission is to make Dogen accessible.

Notes
Claudia learned a lot from this biography of Tennessee Williams. For folks interested in his life, this is a really complete work. This isn't too tabloid-y or sensationalized.
Notes
Bonnie really enjoyed this historical fiction based on true events, featuring really strong women in the Dominican Republic.
Description
Notes
Pat enjoyed this interwoven tale of two different women living in two different historical periods. "A really good story, with a twist."
