Kristin mentioned reading this during August and specifically saw it as being something that Wendy would like. Claudia recognized the author's name and had read her previous book, linked next.

Kathy shared this inter-generational tale from Vietnam. The themes made someone think of Orphan Master's Son (linked next) until someone pointed out that that title has a Korean setting and we recognized that it was really The Sympathizer we were talking about (linked below).

Wendy was disappointed by this one and the following Allende titles were suggested for her to read instead.

Notes
Kristin loved this one. Irish, historical, set against the backdrop of the Flu Pandemic of 1918...it could be adapted as a play and Kristin would definitely go to see it.

Sandra described this as part science part memoir...we were able to determine from the dewey call number that it is cataloged in science. Eels and how humans have thought about them throughout history (and the history of science) makes them a unique subject and this is a fascinating read.

Notes
Claudia chimed in with another Japanese author...this one who wrote in post-WWII Japan. She noted the eroticism and danger of the story. It is a parody of a 14th Century Noh play

Notes
Bill has brought in Patti Smith before and found this to be more of what he has come to expect from her work. There is, apparently, a lot of coffee drunk in the course of this book.

Carolyn kicked us off with this one. She enjoyed this memoir and promptly sent to her granddaughter in the hopes that she would read as well!
